The morning of October 3rd started out early at 4AM as we released our moorings on Lake Union and made way through the Ballard locks and out into Elliot Bay. The prospect of heading out to open sea was certainly enticing and exciting but the morning was met not only with memories of my wife and family being left at home, but also with little sleep and the dampness of October in Western Washington.
The yacht we are on, the Tabula Rasa, is a beautiful sailing catamaran, 57ft long, a 30ft beam and 4ft draft. Speaking from my very layman’s viewpoint, she is a sight to behold and a very well maintained vessel.
The crew consists of 4 adults and one child. The Captain and his wife, owners of the vessel, their daughter, a very good friend of ours up from San Diego, and myself. Each one of us here on the boat with a common goal: sailing the Tabula Rasa safely and efficiently to the British Virgin Islands. Although we share a common goal, each of us carry our own purpose and reason for this adventure. My purpose you may ask? well….it is also one of the reasons behind this Blogspot.
We all have a story. This is mine…..
